Is your favorite nonprofit not listed in the Donor Resource Guide?

Post

Have you searched through the Our Promise Donor Resource Guide with no luck in finding your favorite nonprofit? Have you wondered how to help your favorite nonprofit get into the guide? You can help, and the application process is just beginning!

Nonprofits apply on an annual basis with United Way California Capital Region for an opportunity to be listed in the Our Promise Donor Resource Guide, handed out to all California state employees. Once the application process closes, the applicants are submitted to the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board who approve the nonprofits that will be eligible to receive designated payroll donations based on certification that the nonprofits comply with statutory requirements. The Board does not independently investigate the nonprofits other than to verify their federal tax-exempt status and review their self-certifications of compliance with applicable California Department of Fair Employment and Housing Regulations. The Board’s determination is not an endorsement of any particular nonprofit.

Nonprofits can find more information here on how to get started, or can sign up to receive notification on when the application process will open and close. They can also email OPcertification@uwccr.org for more information.

Certified 501(c)(3) nonprofits are still able to receive donations through Our Promise by a donor utilizing the write-in portion.

These are a few of the many benefits for a nonprofit to be listed in the Donor Resource Guide:
  • The print and online version of the Donor Resource Guide is seen by up to 300,000 state employees.
  • Nonprofits are invited to special events and speaking engagements at state departments and agencies.
  • Our Promise nonprofits all receive an invite to the August Kick-off event held at the California State Capitol.
  • Having an Our Promise organization code helps ease the contribution process on the pledge form.
  • Donors are assured that Our Promise nonprofits have been vetted and approved to receive their donations.

Don’t miss this opportunity to get your favorite nonprofit(s) involved in the 2016-17 Our Promise Campaign materials!
