California Native Americans have vibrant cultures rooted in a very rich and lengthy past that predates the existence of California and the United States. California has 165 Native American tribes, more than any other state other than Alaska. Native Americans trace their presence in California as far back as 13,000 years.
In the United States, 30 million adults are living with diabetes, and 84 million with prediabetes. Every November, health advocates ring the alarm on the diabetes epidemic. For the millions of us who are at risk for it, it’s a time to get educated, find resources and make sure all those around us are aware of their risk, too.
National Adoption Month is an initiative of the Children’s Bureau with the goal to increase national awareness of the need for permanent families for children and youth in the U.S. foster care system. In California, there are more than 62,000 youth living in foster care and more than 34,000 waiting for a permanent family.
Stress Awareness Day is an annual observance held on the first Wednesday of November. Initiated by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA), its main goal is to provide information of stress and strategies on how to address it.
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day, now recognized as Veterans Day.
