Volunteer, I am

Post Leena Mendoza, Department of Transportation (Caltrans)

When I was 12 years old, I started my career and passion for volunteering.  My father encouraged me to get involved with the community and be proactive to make change. I received scholarships during my senior year in high school because of my academic performance and starting the Key Club through the Kiwanis Club of Woodlake High School. I absolutely love to volunteer and serve my community. I currently serve as a committee member on the Red Heart Ball, for the Ronald McDonald House of Charities of the Valley. I organize canned food drives and clothing drives for Catholic Charities, organize turkey drives for the local homeless shelter called the Poverello House, help gather donated items and volunteer at gala events for the Boys and Girls Club, volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters, get involved with United Way Campaigns, and I sit on the Volunteer Ministry Team at my church NorthPointe.

If you ask me, I will volunteer. I have a gift of connecting others. I enjoy meeting new people and making things happen. I believe in others and want only the best for them. I volunteer to show my son what my father showed me. It is important that we pull together as a community to serve others. This tough economy should be renamed “ECANAMY” because together we can make it happen. As I came on board to Caltrans, I was excited to hear about Our Promise: California State Employees Giving at Work (formerly CSECC).  Caltrans is proud to get involved and donate to our community. I have had the honor and privilege to be a Loaned Executive for Caltrans and Our Promise two years in a row.  Encouraging the State of California to donate their time and many talents to Our Promise proves to be a worthy cause each year.
